Notes on the Etgoesian Crisis is a short (5-6 hours long) jRPG for Windows that I made a few years ago. It’s sort of a prologue to Because We’re Here, though in terms of the chronology, it’s technically a sidestory. So I’ve gone for just labelling it a ‘precursor’.

I made this game using RPG Tsukuru 2003, at an ~incredibly~ slow pace, between 2009 and about 2011. (And then apparently didn’t get round to putting it online until 2013…)

It’s set in Lassalle - the same continent as Because We’re Here - and gives a lot of background to the conflict. (Although IIRC, some of the geography’s outdated.) I’d like to remake it someday and fully invalidate this version in terms of canon, hah. As well as hopefully tell the story much better!!

(In 2015, I briefly went back as a nascent Studio Elfriede and made it into Notes on the Etgoesian Crisis: Plus, swapping out the sprites and changing small amounts of the lore to better fit with Because We’re Here. But style- and quality-wise, it’s still very much a product of ~2010!)

It’s VERY rough around the edges (using graphical rips and edits, and a soundtrack compiled from various sources (although it does have fully original artwork)), but I had a lot of fun making it.

Considering its length, it’s actually got a LOT of optional party members and sidequests. At one point there’s a dungeon puzzle based around British/American English. And it’s deffo got the best final boss in anything ever. Really top-drawer stuff on the final boss front. Absolutely cracking.

On the whole, though, it’s probably not an amazing game. ;D

Anyway! If you’re interested, there’s a lot more information on the game’s RPGMaker.net page!
If you do decide to brave it, tweet me or something, lol. I’ve got a soft spot for NotEC~
